I joined Toastmasters 12 years ago after a friend had nagged me for 4 years to come to Toastmasters.  When I eventually did go to a meeting, I realised that it was the place for me.  My goal was to be able to communicate one on one and in small groups (3-4 people).  The thought of speaking in front of an audience or leadership was never there.  Step-by-step, I changed.  Toastmasters has not only enabled me to achieve my goal of communicating one-on-one -   it has given me the confidence to stand before an audience and speak,  and has brought to the surface leadership qualities I didn’t know I had.  Toastmasters has  given me the opportunity to understand the importance of supporting and helping others.   I have learnt to listen and to think quickly and  to express my thoughts and voice my opinion.   The encouragement and support from my fellow Toastmasters is immeasurable and I know that I can never give back as much as I have received from this wonderful organisation .
